This practice goes back thousands of years and our ancestors used it for many healing, cleansing and religious purposes and ceremonies. To do just a Spring cleaning and remove stagnant energies, remove blockage from your life, sage can be used just like an incense by lighting it, putting out the flame, and allowing the smoke from the sage to move through each room, cleansing and purifying the air and contents. It is best to use some container held under the sage stick to catch the ashes as to not let them fall to the carpet or floor. In tradition, an abalone shell is used for this purpose and a feather to waft or move the smoke in a more efficient manner throughout the space. A white candle can be lite during the ceremony to help remove lingering negative energy. A prayer, such as a house blessing prayer is also sometimes used to help cleanse a property.
